Maple Story 2 – A worthy sequel
MMORPG – If you have ever played any free to play browser games, then chances are relatively high that you’ve heard of Maple Story. Potentially one of the most successful and most renowned MMORPGs. Now Maple Story 2 has been released and we simply had to give it a try ourselves. Stay tuned.
Official Maple Story 2 Trailer
Maple Story 2 is the successor to one of the most popular browser MMORPGs of the past decade. Refining the classic MMORPG recipe, in which you start out as a rookie character, trying to ascend to greatness, Maple Story 2 sets new standards. Dozens of new mechanics, visuals and overhauls await new players. With each level you unlock new and powerful abilities which enable you to tackle even some of the most dangerous foes in the Maple World, a world that is constantly in need of a fresh influx of aspiring heroes.
A brand new world:
Maple World has always been a wondrous world but with Maple Story 2 this world has become even more beautiful but also more dangerous. Starting as a Level 1 newcomer, you first have to earn your spurs and in order to do so you best start by doing some lower level quests or simply take matters into your own hands and keep on slaying pesky little monsters. In Maple Story 1 that turned out to be a massive grind fest and getting to max level really was painful for some. The sequel though recognized that and delivered improvements which allow you to level your character without all the extensive grinding. Why don’t you just leave the monsters be for a few hours and go fishing or play some music? Yup, both activities will earn you experience and can even be automated for those periods in which you prepare yourself a sandwich or do whatever.
One of the major strengths of Maple Story had always been its creative approach to game design. Aside from the visuals, which are still overbearingly cute and heavily influenced by the Japanese anime culture, Maple Story 2 really knocks it out of the park in terms of character customization. For example your self-build house, another feature of Maple Story 2, can be fully customized with unique templates that you can shape and mold and even sell to other players for some extra income. In this regard only your creativity will determine how much money you’ll be able to make by simply designing furniture or similar items for other players. If you rather do something else, then why not hire one of the many NPC assistants? Those will produce rare potions or other valuable items for you and even keep producing things when you’re offline.
Well, what would any game be in 2018 without a proper Battle Royale, right? Exactly, and that’s why Maple Story 2 even has its own unique Battle Royale mode. Here, you drop in via a big balloon, slay randomly placed monsters and earn your pickups while facing other players at the same time. Fast-paced action is guaranteed. If you rather engage in some old-school PvP content though, then that is also fine because arena battles are still super popular in Maple Story 2. Smacking other players is almost always more fun than fighting some computer controlled slime monsters and the PvP rewards are most likely better anyways.

The Bottom Line
Years ago, when we played the original Maple Story, we spent countless of hours with grinding little yellow fluff balls and green slime. Today we do it again but today it is so much more fun. Maple Story 2 almost everything right and improved upon the few areas where it was lacking. Leveling isn’t tedious anymore and with all the new things that you can do, craft and explore, Maple Story 2 is basically more like a completely new game that also utilizes the very popular Japanese art style. In this regard we can only conclude the following: Maple Story 2 is possibly one of the five best free to play browser MMORPGs you can play right now and we basically have no idea why you shouldn’t.
